I was a teacher for ten years. I taught for Adult Education programs in the public school system, and through Chesapeake Community College. I also taught for private universities. My experience was primarily with teens and young adults. I also got to work extensively with young adults from other countries and cultures.
I received a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the school that houses the archives of several of my favorite scholars.
For my clinical training in mental health, I spent two years as a lead or co-therapist at a residential treatment center for addictions. I was also an intake and resource counselor while teaching, for a total of three years.
I have two decades of experience with recovery and addictions, working with women’s sacred ritual, embodiment, and energy or Reiki healing. I have practiced yoga for 20 years. Mindfulness and meditation are integral aspects of my experience of wellness.
Intersectional, trauma-informed treatment is my priority. My perspective is psychodynamic. This means I am clinically trained to help us look at the present, and long term, psychological dynamics at play in your life. We’ll also learn to look at the different family and cultural systems dynamics that create them.
Because of my career teaching for Chesapeake College, and years as a student at Anne Arundel Community College, I am a huge believer in community education.
I have completed continuing education trainings in Somatic Experiencing under Peter Levine; Embodied Trauma Recovery under Bessel Van Der Kolk; and Relational EMDR through Deany Laliotis.
I am a member of the Maryland Counseling Association, American Mental Health Counselors Association, Black Mental Health Alliance, Psychotherapy Networker, and the Depth Psychology Alliance.
